Social Responsibility
BRIEF ON NDIC SUPPORT TO INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING
Introduction
It would be recalled that Mr. President at a meeting of the Bankers’ Committee sometime in 2003 drew attention to the deplorable state of the infrastructural facilities in our institutions of higher learning and called for assistance to the institutions towards improving the quality and standard of education in the country. The Bankers Committee agreed to contribute toward improving the quality of education at our higher institutions of learning. In furtherance of that agreement and in fulfilment of our social responsibility to the society, the Board of the Corporation at its meeting held on 2 nd September, 2003 considered a Management proposal to give financial support to selected institutions of higher learning in executing mutually agreed projects.
The Board subsequently approved a grant of x 130 million to be disbursed at the rate of x 10 million to each of the 13 selected Universities. The grant was in support of projects like building of lecture halls, academic offices, hostels, theatre, provision of laboratory equipment, internet facilities, Cybercafe/Computer Centres etc which are essential for effective learning and research.
A total of thirteen (13) Universities were selected from 6 geo-political zones in the country, two were chosen from each zone and one from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Implementation of the Scheme
Each of the 13 beneficiary Institutions was expected to present a specific project of its choice for purpose of funding in line with the prescribed guidelines and philosophy of the scheme.
The following institutions have benefitted from the scheme.
