Prof. P. N. Umoh - Executive Director, Operations

A financial economist by training, Prof. Umoh started his career as a banker with First Bank of Nigeria Plc before joining the State of Oregon in the United States of America as an Investment Appraiser. Upon completion of a Ph.D. Programme in Finance, he taught the subject to MBA Students of Atlanta University before joining the University of Port Harcourt as a senior founding member of the MBA Programme. He rose from Lecturer to Professor of Finance in 1987 at the institution which he served in numerous academic and administrative capacities such as departmental headship and director of consultancy.

In addition to the University of Port Harcourt employment, Prof. Umoh was an External Examiner in Finance to numerous Nigerian Universities and also held editorial and board positions nationally. He has been active in publications and the dissemination of finance knowledge through publications and lectures.

In 1989, Prof. Umoh was appointed the pioneer Head of Research and Publications Department of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) which started operations that year. He nurtured the Department to its present enviable status. In October 1999, he was appointed the Executive Director (Operations), with oversight over Bank Supervision, Liquidation and Research activities of the Corporation. In addition, he is a member of the NDIC Board of Directors, Chairman of the Research and Publications Committee of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria as well as a member of the Council of the Institute. Over the years, Prof. Umoh has benefitted from various training, attachment and other capacity building programmes at home and abroad, designed to prepare the management and staff of the Corporation for their assigned responsibilities and for greater tasks ahead.
